When decluttering and organizing, keep distractions to a minimum. Commit yourself to small tasks or projects that can be achieved in a short time. Focus in short defined bursts. Here are a few tools:

  • Use small time blocks such as 15 minute, 30 minute intervals for doing tasks. Even five focused minutes are better than an unfocused hour.

  • Set a timer - you can use your smart phone or computer if you don't have one.

  • Try to be laser focused and do nothing else but this task.

  • Be kind to yourself. If you discover that you have gone off task, gently turn your attention back to what you were doing.

  • Pretend it's a game and compete with yourself to get it done!
